Dentures can look just like your natural teeth. However, they can also dirty like natural teeth do. It is important to clean your dentures because they will stain and collect bacteria otherwise. Here are a few tips on how to care for your dentures so they will stay in good condition.

  1. Always remove your dentures before rising or brushing them; this makes cleaning easier and more effective.
  2. Only use cool water when cleaning dentures. Hot water can warp their shape.
  3. Rinse your dentures after eating to clear out food particles.
  4. Brush your dentures once a day.
  5. Use a denture cleanser when brushing. Do not use toothpaste, as this can be too abrasive for denture material.
  6. Brush dentures gently with a soft-bristle toothbrush.
  7. Clean your dentures over a folded towel to prevent damage if you drop them.
  8. Handle your dentures with care. If you bend them out of shape, they can become uncomfortable and create sores in your mouth.
  9. Soak your dentures overnight in cool water or a soaking solution.
  10. See your dentist every 6 months so they can check the fit of your dentures.
